Mysticism

Release Date : 1996-11-01

Download Mysticism written by Jess Hollenback and has been published by Penn State Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-11-01 with Religion categories.

This sweeping study of mysticism by Jess Hollenback considers the writings and experiences of a broad range of traditional religious mystics, including Teresa of Avila, Black Elk, and Gopi Krishna. It also makes use of a new category of sources that more traditional scholars have almost entirely ignored, namely, the autobiographies and writings of contemporary clairvoyants, mediums, and out-of-body travelers. This study contributes to the current debate about the contextuality of mysticism by presenting evidence that not only are the mystic's interpretations of and responses to experiences culturally and historically conditioned, but historical context and cultural environment decisively shape both the perceptual and affective content of the mystic's experience as well. Hollenback also explores the linkage between the mystic's practice of recollection and the onset of other unusual or supernormal manifestations such as photisms, the ability to see auras, telepathic sensitivity, clairvoyance, and out-of-body experiences. He demonstrates that these extraordinary phenomena can actually deepen our understanding of mysticism in unexpected ways. A unique feature of this book is its in-depth analysis of &"empowerment,&" an important phenomenon ignored by most scholars of mysticism. Empowerment is a peculiar enhancement of the imagination, thoughts, and desires that frequently accompanies mystical states of consciousness. Hollenback shows its cross-cultural persistence, its role in constructing the perceptual and existential environments within which the mystic dwells, and its linkage to the fundamental contextuality of mystical experience.

Social Order And The Limits Of Law

Professor Jenkins develops a systematic theory of the origins, the ends, and the functions of law. He then applies this theory to the problems that law encounters and the conditions that it must satisfy if it is to be an effective force in society. Originally published in 1980. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

This book completes Jean-Pierre Barral's widely acclaimed four-volume exploration of the osteopathic implications of the dysfunctions of the internal viscera. The focus of this volume is on the pelvis, especially of women. The introduction provides an overview of the relationships of the pelvis and spine. Tests which are particularly useful for pelvic disorders, including the genitohumeral and completed Laségue's tests, are detailed. Also included are imaging studies that demonstrate the utility of the viscersl manipulative approach to the pelvis. Chapter 2 focuses on the bladder, and especially the treatment of stress incontinence and the effects of the various systems of pressure on the lower pelvis. The role of bladder restrictions in low back pain, lower leg problems, and hip pain is explained. Chapter 3 discusses the uterus, focusing on the cervix. The reader will gain an appreciation for the osteopathic view of the importance of the different motions affecting the uterus, and how they can become dysfunctional. Chapter 4 concludes the tour of the female pelvis with the uterine tubes and ovaries. The holistic osteopathic viewpoint is typified by Barral's presentation of the various elements that must work in harmony for fertilization to occur.

Modeling Analysis And Control Of Dynamic Systems

Author : William J. Palm, III

Download Modeling Analysis And Control Of Dynamic Systems written by William J. Palm, III and has been published by Wiley this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-07-29 with Science categories.

A Comprehensive Introduction to a Dynamic Field More modeling.more controls.more electrical and mechanical devices.. The second edition contains more coverage of key topics for a comprehensive introduction to dynamic systems and control. This includes modeling and analysis techniques, the fundamentals and applications of control systems, transfer functions, sensitivity and robust control, and digital control. Engineering design is also emphasized throughout the text with case studies, design examples, problems, and extensive hardware coverage. Key Features of the Second Edition * Extensive coverage on modeling is expanded to four chapters. The selection of engineering examples and the clear writing effectively relates the math methods to the real world. * Laplace transform response techniques are introduced as needed in the context of engineering applications. This approach clearly demonstrates the need for and the power of these techniques. * Case studies are integrated throughout the text to provide in-depth treatment of practical engineering applications such as motion control system design, electromechanical system design, vehicle suspension design, and aircraft response modes. * Optional sections at the end of each chapter introduce Matlab commands and applications relevant to the chapter's topics. * Digital controller design using Matlab is covered without the need for z-transform theory.
